Prof. Sean McLoone

Seán McLoone, a native of Glenties, Co. Donegal, received his third level education at Queen's University Belfast (QUB), where he was awarded a Master of Engineering Degree with Distinction in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 1992, a PhD in Control Engineering in 1996 and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Teaching in 2000. He was a Postdoctoral Researcher (1996-1997) and Lecturer at QUB (1998-2002) and a Lecturer (2002-2005), Senior Lecturer (2005-2012) and Head of Department (2009-2012) at the Department of Electronic Engineering, NUI Maynooth before taking up his current post as Professor and Director of the Energy Power and Intelligent Control (EPIC) Research Cluster at QUB in January 2013. He also holds a joint appointment at the Department of Electronic Engineering, NUI Maynooth where he is academic lead partner for the Virtual Metrology and Predictive Maintenance Research Programme of the Irish Centre for Manufacturing Research (ICMR) and a co-PI on a 4.5M SFI funded strategic research cluster grant (09/SRC/E1780) led by University College Dublin (UCD), on Sustainable Electrical Energy Systems (SEES).
